Default Dull Fiberglass

Has anyone used the acrylic sealer products? I was going to compound and then wax to restore the shine. There are allot of people talking about the good and bad things with using the acrylic sealer just don't know which is the best choice?

I'd always heard that they turn yellow in the sun....I'd stay away from them just to be safe....

I don't see the point in them personally.... takes a good few years for the gel to fade so why not just buff it up every few years.

An electric buffer, a high grade rubbing compound and decent polish should get your gel looking like new in no time!

I agree with with BR...use rubbing compound designed for fiberglass and a good polish or wax will do alot better than an acrylic spray on ....

We're upto about $8.58 a gallon over here in the UK now (£1.12 a litre) - It's insane... am not looking forward to filling the boat up for the first time this year!

Ah well.. Love the boat! (Bring-On-Another-Thousand)

Well I broke down and bought a Porter Cable 7424 electric buffer with pads from autogeek.net. I picked up some turtle wax compound and buffed out the haze. it took going around two times. I tried out some Collinite insulator wax #845 and it looks great, it has a wet look to it. I'm glad I did not go with the acrylic sealer.

Thanks for the help.

You have to post before and after pictures. The difference is really amazing.

Very nice results. I have my boat in the detail shop right now (free storage, NOT!!). This business specializes in detailing semi tractor rigs ans does marine on the side. My boating bud just got his 24' Baja back and it looks better than new! Mine is the 2300SC and has more glass inside than out I feel. All has slight haze/chalking along with deep water spots on the sides (from spray). Pick it it later this week. I will post after images. I have a few before in my gallery.

Oh ya- the local dealer can get the MAXUM raised gold letters for $15 each letter. I have my own vinyl sign cutter. I will post the new (and improved) graphics when completed.

Wow, only 3 months till boat season, woohoo!

I can't wait to see what you come up with. You could make some money selling them to members.

Finally, temps getting all the way to 70 (F) today. Boat is ready to be picked up from detailers tomorrow. I will post images of the transformation.

I also have my new vinyl cutting equipment and have started to design the replacement logos that were removed during restoration. I plan to integrate the new with the old logos. I will let you know how they turn out.

Yehaa!! Summer just around the corner (July this year LOL)
