Default Boat steering stuck to the left

Hello everyone,

I was out on the lake today when my steering became stuck and will only turn to the left.

My steering wheel turns just fine. When I turn the steering wheel I do see something moving in the engine bay, but the outboard part with the propeller wont turn at all.

Anyone have any Ideas? I hope its something simple like adding fluid or something...

Try disconnecting the steering cable from the steering arm on the inner transom assembly to see if the wheel can turn all the way lock to lock as well as if you can move the drive externally side to side.

Sounds like cable snapped. It can push the drive to the left but can't pull it back to the right.

I assume this is an Outdrive, not an Outboard? Outboards have external steering, typically made by a third party like SeaStar which is the most common.

Outdrive steering is specific to the manufacturer (Mercruiser) and is internal. If this is an outdrive, what type is it?

Thanks guys,

Turns out it was a steering cable issue. The cable screws on to a rack and pinion looking thing. It worked its self loose. I reconnected it and it works fine.

Thanks for the help!
