Question 3.0L Mercruiser won't Idle

Looking for some help out there -

Boat ran fine last weekend with no idle issues. Now a week later we can not keep it running unless we are over idle. Engine has new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Do not believe it is electrical, think it may have clogged idle ports in the carb? It has the 2 brl carb, are there idle mixture screws that may be plugged up? Appreciate the help. Have fun boating!

What rpm does it idle at with the throttle advanced?

I do not think it's an electrical issue either. Could be dirty idle circuit as you said.

Question Idle Issue

Mike -

The engine seems to run fine at 1200 rpm and above. At that point you already have the prop engaged due the clutch in the drive unit (prop shaft). When it did idle the rpm would be 500-600 then it would die as soon as it was put in gear. Not familiar with the 2 brl carb on this engine so I am looking for some help getting on the right track, what adjustments or dis-assembly one can do.

Sounds like either the idle circuit of the carb is not providing enough fuel due to clogged circuit or a vacuum leak. Probably time for a carb rebuild.

Mike -
For a 1992 with approx 1300 hrs you are more than right. Hope to get through this season and do the rebuild during the off season. Made some adjustments with the idle stop and the idle mixture and it will idle now but on the "rich" side. See if it will continue this way for the rest of the season. Watching the You Tube video on the carb rebuild (Mercruser Rochester carb) was a big help. Have a great season on the water.
