Default 2900 SCR maintenance question

Hi All;

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2900 SCR with a 7.4MPI & Bravo III outdrive. The boat has no real history except that it’s a repossession by the bank but it seems to be in decent shape. Anyway, since I'm investing a few bob in this, I want to spend a little more getting it cleaned up and as close to new as possible.

I've asked the dealer to price a couple of things for me like a service, a buff and wax and this is what he's suggested;

A detail with buff and wax is 16 dollars per foot.
A seasonal service which includes oil and filter, lower gear oil, pulling the outdrive and lubing coupler, gimball bearing, u-joints, and coupler for $475.
He also suggested the water pump impeller at $ 325.

I live in Atlanta, GA and I was just wondering what you think of the pricing and what the dealer has suggested for the service.

Is there anything else I should be looking at? Do you guys think this makes sense?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd say he's pretty close...pulling the drive and lubing that up is essential...also...check alignment of the engine and as for the raw water pump....oh yeah...that's the one that needs to be done about every 300 hrs......no doubt about it....since it's used...I'd say lets start fresh......

hope it all goes well with your new toy!.. :hello:

If i was you i would also invest $300 in the mercuiser scan tool from www.rinda.com
you can then do your own diagnostics and well worth the money it will pay for itself over the coming years.

$325 for an engine driven pump??? Omg. Is that for a new pump or just impeller?

Just replaced my impeller, $29 and 45 minutes. That included chasing the threaded holes with a tap.
