Smile 2800 SCR Steering

Hi all

I just wanted to share my recent experience. I purchased a 1998 2800 SCR last summer. Last week, when I took the boat out for the first time since putting it up in November, I could hardly steer it. It took two hands on the wheel and a great amount of effort and exertion just to turn the wheel. I've looked on the various threads on this forum about this issue. I've seen recommendations ranging from changing the Teleflex cables to pulling the engine and replacing the transom pin. My solution was far easier. I'm merely added power steering fluid to the reservoir and now the boat steers like a dream.

Yes this is another source, however whenever I have had to do so in peoples boats it has been due to a leak in the system. The leak has commonly been in the assist unit.

keep a check on the fluid level and look for signs of the fluid in the bilge.

Yeap, that fluid has to be going somewhere.
