Default 2004 Mercruiser 3.0 - Rust Treatment Advice needed

Ok so I have a 2004 Mercuiser 3.0L engine in my boat. The sides of the main block are rusting athough the front/top/rear are still fine. Damn saltwater!!
What would be the best way to tackle it. My plan is to unplug/unbolt as much as I can from the side with the slave starter etc attached (the other side is pretty clear and is much easier to tackle) and then wire brush followed with some sort of rust treatment or a hammerite "direct to rust" type of paint.

Can anyone advise me the best method or products to use - or if someone has done the same task in the past?

bout the best you can do is to do what your saying....wire brush....hose off ....and spray paint with mercruiser black....
