Default 1950 NA Steering issues with 3.0 LX and alpha one

I have a 1997 1950 NA, with a 3.0 liter LX and an alpha one out drive.

It has a lot of slop in the steering wheel. The out drive and steering arm are in snyc and tight, it feels like it is in the u-joint of the adjustable steering wheel. Any ideas of how to remove, rebuild or tighten this joint?

Could it be something else. I have been reading about the gymbal, but this seem good, and I will have to climb under and make sure that the rack nut is tight, but anything else to look at would be great suggestion.

thank you,
OCO

Check under the helm to ensure the rack bolts are tight. From the outside of the boat can you move the drive side to side and is there any delay of the steering arm inside?
