Default Will my engine automatically shut off if the Drive oil reservoir is low?

Title says it all - I was cruising at about 10-15MPH on Saturday on the lake when I heard two beeps from the dash, my natural reaction was to take the speed down near neutral...next thing I know, my engine cut off.

I checked all fluid levels. The only thing I found was my drive oil reserv to be well below the sensor level.

Is it possible for the engine to cut off to 'protect itself' due to this level being low? I am new and just bought an '04 Maxum to get going, and on my 2nd go, am having trouble already.

If a carburetor engine, no. If MPI I’m not certain but have not heard it will. Did the engine restart and run ok after topping off the reservoir?

It actually restarted fine even without the reservoir being topped off; I have a carburetor engine indeed. I restarted it several times on the water when it originally happened, it just wouldn't stay on.

Any other ideas? It's so weird and no one seems to know why it's happening

So the engine starts and runs for a minute then dies? If yes I would suspect the oil pressure switch that powers the fuel pump.
