Default Where there is smoke??

I have a 2003 29SCR with a 6.2 MPI. I noticed over the weekend the idle was low, and then some smoke was coming out from under the engine cover. I took that off, and just behind the air filter there seemed to be a small hole in the little silver canister, out of which was oozing molten balck plastic, which was smoking. I thought that can't be good. Also, there was a double beep, but the outdrive fluid was fine. Any ideas?

No, that probably isn't good. I don't suppose you got a picture of it?

I'm drawing a blank as to what the canister might be. How "little" is it? Are there any wires attached to it?

Idle air valve was shot, pretty simple fix. The double beeps seems to be either the outdrive gear lube or the ATF for the trim tabs. Filled both, no beeps for now, will keep an eye out for leaks.

Outdrive Gear Lube. Trim tabe are optional and more than likely made by Bennett. Mercruiser and Maxum are both made by US Marine/Brunswick. The alarm systems are typically integrated with the engine. I would put money that Bennett hasn't integrated with the Mercruiser alarm system. Double-Beep is Drive Lube.
