Default Water Distribution Housing

Well I get to fix my very first thing on my 5.0 Mercruiser! I noticed that after running at cruising speed and slowing down to idle my bilge pump would always come on. For a while I went with the "all boats take on some water" theory as to why it was coming on. Last time out after anchoring and shutting it down I popped open the engine compartment and notice a drip drip drip in the water in the bilge. I couldn't see where it was coming from but it was obvious something was dripping from under the motor. After a bit of sitting it stopped. Today I investigated further and with the help of a mirror and flashlight I found the source of the drip. I had no idea what to call this thing but after much research I found it is called a water distribution housing. Its not leaking at the blue twist valve but more so towards the stern. It looks like a lot of fun to replace as I cant even see it. I'm handy so I'm sure I can figure it out, just looking for tips from anyone that has to replace theirs already. Thanks!

Forgot what year you have but that sounds like part of Mercruiser’s single point drain system on 2000’s and up. Some have an air pump other have drain lines to a single point valve.

Mine is a 2006. It doesn't seem too difficult to replace just getting at it seems to be the challenge. I'll be making a trip to your neck of the woods soon enough.

Will do! I thought about going there today but the weather is supposed to turn later so I'll probably be headed to Stoney Creek this morning.

This job is done and I'm happy with the results. It took about 2 hours, keeping in mind I've never done it before. I left the bracket in place and just removed to three bolts holding the housing to the bracket. Getting the hoses off was probably the most challenging part aside from paying for the replacement part. $200 and it didn't even come with a new forty cent blue screw plug give me a break! Anyway, working in the cramped conditions made it especially fun. I ended up removing the "L" shaped seat back rest which gave me greater access. Besides a few scraped knuckles, chest being bruised, and the neighbors thinking I'm insane with the amount of profanity I was using it actually wants too bad of a job for a DIY job.

I also replaced my blower fan while I was at it, the old one was noisy and sounded sick. The new one is so quiet I have to pop the hatch to see if its on, went with the Attwood deluxe.

All in all two wins in my book, back on the water!
