Warning horn goes off in rough water.
Don't know what it is but my 2004 2400SE with a 5.0 liter runs perfect until I get into rough water. Going against the waves no problem but when going with, when the boat dives into wave voids, the warning horn sounds and goes into limp mode.

Check your gear lube reservoir level for starters. What is the wave height you are diving off of?

the good news, is something sounds lose.....
Could be just the temperature gauge wire on the engine.
I'd feel around on the engine and check all plugs and wires.

Yes, the US Coast Guard placard says 2500SE but the transom says 2400SE kinda strange. Which one is it? Anybody?

I'll stick with my low lube for now.
5 - 6 FEET every 20 feet! in a 25 foot boat. WOW! Ever go crabbing in Alaska?
Not sure about Maxum's labeling. My boat is badged 2400 SCR on the outside yet the CG placard says Model: 2455 MS. The boat was sold as 24 ft but LOA is 25' 4", Go figure

yes, sounds like an low oil pressure alarms, as some fluid is sloshing around.
It's not a jet ski.....

Did you ever get this resolved? I have a 2001 2400 SCR that had a long continuous alarm. Get it checked out by a Mercruiser specialist, and they fixed a leak with the gear lube. Worked great for a few more outings, but then it would go off and on again if I was going really fast, or in rough water. I'm still puzzled. The good thing is that the alarm now stops on its own and doesn't happen often.

Did you check to see if the lube level has gone down? i.e. leaking still

Interesting. Usually Wave Period is measured in time (seconds), not distance (feet). Are you sure this isn't 5-6 ft at a 20 second interval? That would be long slow rollers. Low drive lube resevoir should to Two Fast Chirps. A continous tone would either be the 'alarm check' tone, like you hear when you turn the key to ACC., or it would be the tone for overheating. Incidentally, an overheating condition would also place the boat into guardian mode.

shrew I think you are mixing what the OP said vs. SmileandWave who inquired as he is having similar issue. S&W did not mention wave height or period.
Regarding Alarm codes older boats only have single buzz for all 3 faults, lube, water temp, oil pressure. I am not sure when mecruiser introduced different tone per fault.
S&W has a 2001 that produced a continuous buzz and was determined to be a leak in the lube system. Since the problem reoccured in short order I am assuming the fix failed and recommending he see if the lube level has dropped.

Thanks for the reply Mike. I guess I should be careful not to hijack OP threads. The lube level has not dropped again since that repair. Before it goes back in the water this spring, I will have my mechanic take another look at it.

You can try disconnecting the connector at the gear lube reservoir to see if this keep the alarm silent, if so there is an issue with the float/contact inside it. Otherwise something else causing the alarm to sound.

I took 5-6 ft drops to mean Avg Wave Height, and the reference to 20 ft. to be distance. Admittedly, probably not terribly relevant.
