Default Very Stiff Quicksilver Controls

Hello All!

I just took possession of my 1999 Maxum 3000 SCR, which was fully surveyed last week. Among other things, she will need new dual controls very soon.

The engines are twin V8, 5.7 Mercruiser, 260 HP per. We hit 38 MPH/hr on the sea trial.

She handles very well at sea, at whatever speed, but docking with those stiff shifters is very challenging.

Could be the cables, could be the controls, could be either, could be both. I got a mechanic onboard on Friday, and his guess is that the controls are the problem. I tried them on neutral, and I can feel the discs inside grinding against each other. And there's plenty of grease in there.

I decided to replace both the controls and the cables.

Any recommendation on what the best replacement options are would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard!

I would either go with Quicksilver or Teleflex.

RemiC, I have the same issue, everything is great with my 92 3200scr, but the controls are very stiff. I replaced the cables and it's worse than ever. Mechanic says it's because the turn from the gunnel to the control is too tight. Can't be right?!? Did you end up replacing the controls?
