Default Upgrade from 5.0L to 5.7L

I was a victum of the latest freeze in Southern Cal that damaged a lot of boats in the area. I was told that I have to replace the Engine block. The mechanic told me that I can upgrade from a 5.0 to a 5.7L for the same price. I told him to do it. My question is what prop should I use for the 5.7L. I currently have a 3 blade Aluminum 17 pitch?

I also want to know if the 17 pitch is good for a good top speed and torque to be able to plane with more than 4-5 people on my boat. The boat, by the way, is a 2001 2400 SCR.

Default new engine

Howdy....welcome to the zoo...I used to have a bayliner with a 5.0ltr engine...I always felt it was anemic to be polite about it....your 24 is similar to my old 2455.....so the drive should be fine...now for the prop issues...wait till you get it in the water with the new engine....after proper break in..then do a wide open throttle test....your engine should turn max at between 4400-4800rpms.....if your going over that..then reprop to a 19" pitch...if your way under than change to a 15"pitch.....each 1inch change in pitch should produce a 200 rpm change one way or the other...
I think you'll find that 5.7ltr engine will make your boat haul arse!!!....it has alot more torque than the 5.0ltr engine and will not work as hard as the 5.0 does....
again..welcome to the zoo and let us know how it went!!

Default What about top end speed?

Should I expect a different in top end speed with the 5.7L over the 5.0L?

Default engine

probably not a difference in top end..but definitely time to plane will be quicker......won't know what your top end is until your break in period is over and you can go to wot....that will tell you what prop you should change too....if you need to change to a different prop at all..... 8)

Default Upgrade from 5.0L to 5.7L

I have the same boat (2400 SCR) WITH A 5.7 4bbl. I have a Vortex 15 X 17 prop that is cupped making it closer to a 15X19. Cruises at 28 MPH at 3300RPM WO is 4500 RPM 40MPH. All checked with a GPS. I think you'll be very happy with the 5.7
