Default Twin 5.7 Water Pump Question. 2001 mpi inboards

Hi All,

I am installing a new water pump on my starboard motor.

The pump can be used on either motor but has to be orientated correctly to do so.

So here is my question.

On the pump it says LH out and RH out ..... is my starboard motor left or right ?????

If the water lines are crossed, the impeller will be toast.

I want to do it right the first time..... Thanks for your imput.

Bill I believe both engines are left hand and the outdrive is set up to rotate in the opposite direction.

When both engines are cranking/running are they turning in the same direction?

The pump has an inlet hose and an outlet hose.

On the right motor it's just the opposite of the left motor.

I naturally think the starboard motor is the right one....but if you are looking back at them, with the hatch open....starboard is on the left.

Seems easy ..... just looking for someone who actually knows.

Again, Thanks.

If you have counter rotating engines the Starboard engine should be the counter rotating (right hand) one while the port engine should be left hand rotation.

Others on the site may know but may require to know what model and year the boat is.

FYI: a left hand engine will have it's flywheel rotate counterclockwise when looking at it from the back of the engine facing forward and the opposite for a righthand engine.

Thanks for your input, I figured things out.

Come to find out, they are both LH motors.

You were correct when saying it's determined by the direction the flywheel spins when looking from behind the motor.

Glad you figure out the rotation. Did you get the new pump installed, running OK?
