Default Temp question?

2002 MAXUM 2400SCR

yesterday I had 9 friends on the boat for a quick spin... I know this is too many for me!! I usually like 6 adults max! Well anyway, the boat ran good but I did notice that it was a little sluggish... the temp gauge also was a little higher than normal. It was reading a little passed 190. Usually it reads 175-180 with 6 people onboard. Does anyone think that it was because of the weight I had onboard??

Hard to tell but it should not have caused this. How much weight did the 9 friends come too? All males or females?

How long was the ride and at what speed?

Guess you need to go back to 6 and see what happens but if the temp pushed 190 slow down and return ASAP.

Heck with 6 my boat is sluggish.

Well, it was 9 adults maybe 1400lbs?? We were cruising at around 18mph. The RPM was high 4500-5000 at times... 190 is high? I was told by my marine mechanic that anything over 210 is high and to head in? My boat usually heats at 175-180...

You are taxing the motor with all those passengers and weight. Your impeller could be on the way out, your engine bearings could be on the way out, there is a lot that is trying to tell you that your engine might have some issues.

Well water boils at 212 so if you wait till 210 it will cost you $5K for a engine. The boat is rated for 12 persons or 1800 lbs, you had 1400 in folks plus gear which means pushing the max load then add some age to the boat.

Go back to 6 people and see if it stays normal.

BTY how old is the impeller?

So I took the temp with the handheld IR temp reader. The starboard side read 135-145 the portside read 90-110. The temp gauge at the helm read 175. How are these numbers? Also I noticed there is a hose connected to the starboard riser and it never fills with anything even when the engine is running, just stays flat... Check out the photo... does anyone know what the hose is and is it suppossed to stay flat all the time??Click image for larger version

The temps look ok.

I don't think that hose carries water as it has no clamps on it. Maybe use to duct heat to the intake although I don't know why.

I would think any hose that is deformed like that is not doing what it was intended to do...
