Default Starter motor

Hi all,
Im having problems starting my engine ( mercruiser 5.0 mpi). Will start on like every 20th try.. Today I screw a bit on the solonoid cable and engine started. Manage to take photo on it, not easy. Looks quite rusty and eroded.
Anyone knows what size on the screw? US measurement or European?

Thx!

I would first verify it’s not the slave soleniod which is top of the engine near the 50 amp breaker as what you described is a common fault with them. It has two larger terminals, try jumping them to see if the starter engages. If it does replace the slave soleniod. $25 US.

I’m with Mike, I’ve replaced mine twice. Btw...The slave solenoid on the engine is the same as the two on the trim pump. Ive once swapped one of them off the pump to test with. However they are so cheap I just swap it out with a new one.
