Default smoking engine

Good afternoon. I am new to this forum. Looks like there is a lot of really good info and informed people here. I have a 2002 2700 SCR. Today my wife and I went out for a trip in the bay area (CA). While we were fueling at the dock, there was a brief smell of smoke. I thought it was another boat. We finished fueling and went out about half mile or so and I really began smelling smoke. The prop began making noises and i turned off the engine. Lifted up the hatch and there was a lot of white smoke. It smelled like electrical. Looked as if it was coming from the back of the engine and very hard to determine the location. Tried to start and it wouldn't turn over at all. Any thoughts or ideas?

Being that smoke was coming from the rear of the engine I would inspect the rubber exhaust hoses as the exhaust system is water cooled due to being in a confined space and without this water the exhaust temperatures will melt the rubber hoses. Can you post some pictures? When was the impeller last changed? This is the scavenger water pump that drawing in sea water for cooling the engine. Now if it truly is electrical the one way to determine the source is to inspect the wiring harness for a melted section. Does the engine crank today after sitting. Note if it’s electric turn off the battery switch immediately to prevent a fire.
