I kept the factory thermostat in. it is running exactly the same temp as my suburban does, which has the same engine.
I might try a cooler stat down the road just to see if I can get lower intake Temps that way.

Shrew I agree for an OEM application but he has used a street engine with closed cooling and for a car operating temp it is right.
Now IMO a lower t-stat should be used as the loads of running a boat are much higher and there is a reason OEM uses a lower setting t-stat.

I have to admit i have skimmed this thread but does anyone else fear a BOOM in the future?
I would recommend not installing an engine hatch.

Why do you say that?
what do you think is the fail point?
I do realize this combo will be brutal to the alpha 1, I'm hoping to nurse it along till fall when I can get some time to put a b1 on it.

I don't see anything that makes me think it will go boom but not sure it meets CG regs either.
So you plan to pull the engine over the winter to change the transom assembly for a Bravo?

if it has to come out, I will. now that everything is made to fit, it would come out easy.
I believe I read somewhere the bravo outer will bolt to the alpha inner. maybe it was just the bellhousing...

What is the total HP on this engine? I have a buddy pushing 400HP per side on Alpha 1's. He has to be careful about holeshots and has to run with his hands on the throttles to make sure he chops them when the drives come out of the water. However, he is running a 29 ft Fountain.

based on someone elses dyno test with te same combo (minus boat exhaust) they were at 380ish, im thinking an honest 350ish in marine exhaust trim? How much power would you say a marine exhaust loses?
Any idea what props he runs?

No idea on HP loss. I believe the Alpha limit is around 300HP & 65 MPH. I would think if you take it easy with hole shots and don't wring her out for long periods of time you'd be fine.
My buddy runs some performance SS clever props and uses external steering.

Does the instructions say to mount them so inboard? I would think they would be more effective further out.

the platform distance won't allow full travel on the shock if it's mounted to the outside. where it clears, gets on the way of the tie downs for trailering. they fit where they fit.
seemed to help stability anyway. made a blast tonight.

just cruising the river today on the way back from tubing. everything seems happy. other than the trim gauge that quit today.
never run out of things to do with boats.

Awesome build!! I've always dreamed of seeing twin LS7's in a 29ft. Are you using a wideband O2 sensor ? Geez I've been waiting years to mustard up the courage to do a 4bbl conversion on my 4.3l , this is pretty inspiring 👍🏼

thanks.
im behind on my plans this year, but i have an aluminum block engine i am going to freshen and use now. it should save another 75 or so lbs. the fuel injection is very "dumbed down" as it sits. i have disabled the o2 sensors(they dont like water), and it runs with no maf sensor as well.
I never got to drive my boat with the 4.3,i bought it as a project.
