Default Repower or build 5.0LX in a 1999 Maxum SCR 2400?

Hi all,

I have a 1999 Maxum SCR 2400 w/ the 5.0LX Carb motor in it. It seems quite underpowered for this boat. I have a like new merc 5.7L carbed I can build, but looking at the engine bay it seems like this would be a nightmare to do a engine swap in.

Does anyone have any advice or info on anyone that's done a swap? Ideally I would sell the 5.7 and use the funds to upgrade the 5.0LX. Im aiming to be around 300HP (220 currently)

Any ideas or suggestions?

I responded to your post on BOC, 5.7 is the way to go. The rear engine mounts are the hardest part of the job since they are under the rear deck seat.

+1 With Mike.
I have a 95 2400 SCR that has a 5.7 A1G2 235hp and it works well.
The Max HP for a A1G2 is 300HP as I understand.
You did not state as to what drive you have, I think Mike has a Bravo drive in his 2400 SCR and he will more than likely respond again, He is very helpful and has a lot of knowhow.
There should not be a problem putting a 5.7 in place of a 5.0.

Thanks Don

From what I recall the OP has a A1G2 drive and yes I have a Bravo 2. As you said his drive is rated to 300 HP

Mike
I thought that you had a Bravo drive but did not remember if it was a 2 or 3.
