Default Replacing impeller

Has anyone changed the impeller on a 95 3200SCR? If so, was it difficult?

are you talking about your raw water pump impeller?

if so, yes, just remove the fan belt off the pump, unbolt the housing from the bracket, and take off the rear cover plate.

the impeller pull right off.

uses some dish washing liquid to squeeze the new one back in.

the hardest part is to be upside down to stick your head into the engine compartment.

Which out drives do you have Capt?

If they are Alpha drives the raw water impeller is in the drive itself. You'll have to pull the lower section of the drive to get to it.

There are a number of good videos on You Tube on how to do it step by step. I'd watch as many as possible. It's also worth getting the Merc manual for the drive as it is detailed in there as well.

Are you sure it's an Alpha? If it is, you have to pull the lower unit off. If it's a Bravo One, Two or Three, the pump is on the bottom left hand corner of the engine. I had the mechanic change mine on the 3200 SCR for under $200 each including the housing (housings get scored if you run them in the muck we do). Bravos can be done while the boat is in the water.

I changed the Bravo impeller our 2400 SC3 ONCE. Really wouldn't want to do that again.

if it is an alpha it's about an hours work, but you need to know where the bolts are
put the shifter in front gear and remove the oil
for the bolts: there is one under the sink on the frontside and one under the little fin on the backside
on both sides you can see 2 bolts
don't forget to replace the little -O- ring.
when you take off the impellor take a pic (yust to be sure you replace the new one in the right direction)
replacing the impellor is a nice time to replace all you're sink's too

I have a Mercriser 350 Horizon / Bravo 2. The pump is impossible to get to. Mercruiser should be ashamed of their design compared to Volvo. The Volvo impeller is in the front of the engine and can be changed easily by anyone.
