Default Rebuild Time

Well it turns out the 5.7L in our 2001 2500 SCR is done for. There is block damage between 3 and 5, both head gaskets are blown and the 5 cylinder is scored. I am going with a remanufactured long block to get er back on the water.

What are the possible reasons that this happened? The engine has, er had about 650 hours.

Also, after the rebuild, will this be considered a 0 hour engine?? Do I reset the Hobbs?

Hi rich
sorry to hear about the blown motor...unfortunately there is no real reason one blows...i've seen engines nursed their entire life end up as a paper weight in 200 hrs and others ran so hard it would make a horse pant just watching....last just about forever...there's no real ryme or reason...fece's just happens...
I believe that boat engines never get up to full operating temps around here...and they are pushed pretty hard....so..the work they do is way harder than a car's engine...
witht that said..when you drop a new engine ...it basically zero's the time..cuz it's a different block....now if you want my personal recommendation...drop a 6.2ltr mercruiser engine in.....you really won't be disappointed....tons of torque and hp...and in your 2500...will scream....the boat will be totally different......if you could get a hold of an mpi engine ..that would be the best.....
good luck...keep us informed..and if there is beer involved....I might be persuaded to help out some!!! 8)

Yeah the bigger engine would be nice, but so would the bill. Gonna have new long block put in, unless you know of a bigger engine for around the same price
