Default Questions on a Weber Carb?

I have a question about my Weber 4b carb on my 5.7 Mercruiser!
When I look down the throats I see what looks like gas setting in the well where the counter weights are above the secondary plates, is this normal, and if not where could the gas be coming from?
The engine runs like a champ! Only starts hard as the choke is not functioning!
Thanks for any and all info and help!
Don

If gas is sitting in the secondaries then either an adjustment is required or a rebuild. Get the manual as it will have a troubleshooting guide.

Thanks Mike!
I have already thought of that!
I found a Merc manual that has the Weber Carb in it ,I am checking out where to get a kit with brass floats as I don't know if it has brass or plastic floats!
Thanks!
And congrats on the new Grandson!

Try Welcome to Mike's Carburetor Parts - Your Number 1 Carburetor Parts Store
Otherwise known as Mike's Carburetor Parts.
Found them to have a good selection of parts and willing to provide Q&A.

Be careful with the aftermarket kits. I rebuilt both of mine and literally, nearly six months to the day, both accelerator pump plungers had shrunk so much that they weren't squirting fuel anymore. I put the original plungers back in and it was good again...

Thanks jparsons121 & speedy!
Tried Mike's carb and they don't list my carb!
Has anyone used carb junkys?
They have a kit on ebay that has brass floats for my carb.
I don't think that there is much of a problem with my carb except it seems to be leaking gas into the well that has the secondary plates are, I can smell gas after it is towed home on trailer but don't see any gas anywhere in the engine room!
If it sets over night after towing home on gas smell at all unless you remove spark arrester!
I think it is eather to high float setting or a leaking gasket on the carb!
Anyway I would rather order a kit with brass floats that way I have them if needed!
Engine run fine just starts hard when cold as it does not have an operating choke!
Thanks !
Don

I think carb junky might be where mine came from. I don't think anything else is wrong with the kit. You can try your luck with their plunger as it only takes like 10 minutes to change it if it fails. Just keep the old parts!
