Default Prop Confusion

Hello - (2002 Maxum 2700 SCR 6.2 MPI) I have a 20 pitch prop and am cruising 24mph @ 4200 rpm. My mechanic said I should be at 3600/3800 rpm at that mph. He recommended a 22 pitch. I went on the Merc site and they say 22 or 24 pitch. What prop should I have.

Help.

then for your boat you should have the 22" with the 6.2ltr mpi engine....I know it sounds like it's screaming..but the engine has an rpm rev limter at 5280 and believe me...it will hit it easily....and according to merc...they want this engine in it's torque band which if your running at cruise..should be running at about 3600-4000 rpm for cruise and that should get you the best fuel burn for that engine/drive combo...

Agree with SP - 22's. Maybe 24's.

Those stainless steel prop sets for B3's are a little spendy.

I think 24's might be a bit much. I have 24's on a B3 on my 2800. I had a 454, and now a 496. I have a tough time reaching Max. RPM on either of those engine.

OK, I picked her up last saturday and WOT seems to be 5300 rpm @ 33 MPH. The rev limiter never went off.

This is not GPS but idiot guages.

I guess I'll try a 22 pitch, unless someone who has this boat can offer something else.
