Default Oil samples came back , red !

Boat is a 1999 maxum 46 with the 370 Cummins.
We are trying to buy this boat and had surveys done.

The oil sample came back as this

SODIUM IS ELEVATED. NO GLYCOL/WATER DETECTED. CHROME, IRON AND ALUMINUM ARE HIGH AND MAY INDICATE PISTON RING, CYLINDER/LINER AND PISTON WEAR. MORE SAMPLE HISTORY NEEDED TO ESTABLISH A NORMAL WEAR TREND. CUT OPEN FILTER(S) AND INSPECT FOR DEBRIS. CHANGE OIL AND FILTER(S) AND RESAMPLE IN 5 HOURS TO MONITOR.

The sellers only ran the boat 30 hours in 3 years which I suspect it has this issue. All the dry starts maybe??

So this may have killed our deal. Not sure if the sellers will do what is suggested, retest, etc. Maybe they will be willing to take off about $15k off the asking price so I can have them rebuilt at some point.

I'm new to this and looking for some advice.
Should I just run away from this one? Boat is very clean in every other way. I'm really shocked to see this in the oil samples.

I know very little about diesels, but have seen the following site mentioned over and over: www.boatdiesel.com

Our site here is fantastic but we're a little thin on diesel knowledge. The site above should provide the information you need to make a more informed decision.

No expert in diesels myself but the report sounds like wear from dry starts and fuel getting into the oil.

I just lost a gasser 5.7 with only 450 hours at 19 years old that I suspect suffered the same as it had 163 hours when I bought it at 11 years old. I got 8 good years out before it started knocking.
