oil drain plug threads

Trying to find out the thread size on my drain pan, without removal. Can't find this info anywhere I've looked. Anybody help? Is it a common size across most pans? 97 mercruiser 3.0 LX.

You would think it would be a standard size however I ordered a pair of remote oil drain hoses for mine (twin 5.7 2 bl) that stated they were for that engine and the thread pitch was wrong.

I tried a nipple in it end of last season to drain oil. The pan is not NPT, as you said the pitch was wrong.

there is only two kinds, so buy both.... usually a fine thread.

Autozone has them on the shelf along with the self tappers.

you can get that pump out tube adapter for $26 bucks and use the parts you need, and throw the rest away.
