Default No revs over 3,000 RPM

Hi Everyone!
I'm new to the forum. We just bought our first Maxum. It's a 1998 2800SCR and we love it. We took it out for the first time last weekend. When I gave the boat WOT the engine would not rev over 3,000RPM and the speed would not go over 9kts. We slogged along like this for awhile and then by itself the rev's rose up to around 4,400 RPM and speed picked up to 32kts. After our day on the island we were visiting it did the same thing coming back home.
I have a single engine Mercruiser 7.4MPI with a Bravo III outdrive. The marina where I fueled up before taking off had a lightning strike the week before that hit their pumps. I filled up from a quarter tank to full.
We sea trailed the boat twice before purchasing and the boat didn't behave this way.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!!!!

Sounds like it is struggling to get on plane. Move some weight forward next time it does this.

Also, check for water in the fuel.

I have a buddy with the same boat and he struggled to get on plane and had to run near WOT to keep it up. He bought a couple new 4 blade props from these guys and it's like a new boat. No more struggling to get on plane.

cakiene3 welcome aboard

So the boat ran fine for 2 sea test and now stuggles but will clear up.

My initial thoughts are a fuel issue from either the new gas or crud that was in the tank sitting for years that is now being stirred up. Was the boat sitting unused before you bought it? Remove the fuel filter and dump its contents into a glass jar to look for water or crud.

Thanks Guys! I will replace the fuel filter and see if that helps.

I am pretty sure it isn't the props. When we sea trailed the boat it got up ion place pretty quickly with 4 people in the boat. Im wondering if its fuel because it did it just after fueling up from the marina.
