I have a 1995 maxum 1800sr with 3.0 merc. I dont have the engine on hand but the serial number plate on the outside of the sterndrive is so faded it cant be read, I have looked all over the place and cant find anywhere to read the serial number. Im pretty sure its the 140 hp lx motor. Can anyone tell me something about the serial number range because I need to find some parts and currently cant access the engine(its out of the boat). I looked in the boat registration and it says its 8408556 but when I google it doesnt seem that it is the right serial. Appretiate you all.
That doesn’t appear to be a serial number that would be expected for a 1995. Prior to 1980, serial numbers were 7 numbers. Yours should start with a 0 or 1 followed by a letter.
To be certain of the engine’s serial, you’d have to look at the plate affixed to the block just aft of the starter.
