Default Mercury Quicksilver Perfect Seal

Hey folks. I am going to be doing my manifolds and risers in the next few days. Manual calls for OEM Mercury Quicksilver Perfect Seal on the gaskets. Doesn't seem like this stuff is readily available, and what I can find is like $50 for a few ounces. Seems a bit excessive. I have seen a few comments that Permatex Aviation Form a Gasket 3 will work. Anyone have experience with using it? Anything for or against? Something else I should use instead?

Thanks!!!
Dave

I've read the same. IMHO I'd still use the Mercruiser recommended product. You're talking about $24.00 in the middle of a $2,000 job.

Agree. But actually the more I look, it appears this is no longer made. The ones I have found are the Quicksilver box, with the Permatex in it when you actually get it. Needless to say people are not happy..since paying $50 for something and expecting this Merc product and then a get product that is $10 everywhere else. So that said, I may be SOL here.

Apparently this is the new Merc part# 92-8M0170149 Permatex Sealant. Looks just a little different than the Permatex you can grab at the hardware store and WM. It is #80019 where the one with the Merc# is #80017. I guess I shall try and order it and see what it looks like.

Be careful with the aviation sealer as some have copper in them which you don’t want on iron exposed to saltwater. I googles Quicksilver Perfect Seal and Amazon has it for $50 for 16 Fl Oz. Additionally shows in stock.

Read that carefully....if you look at the note in the description it says that what's in the box is Permatex. Then go read the comments and all the pissed off people expecting the Quicksilver and getting that.

I wonder if the copper is what the difference between the 80019 and the 80017. The 80017 is the one that you get with the ipdated mercruiser replacement part number. I would hope they wouldn't replace it with something that wasn't compatible. But I will check into it.
