Default mercruiser 7.4 turning off

I have a 1996 maxum 2700 scr.. It starts fine. but runs really rich at dock when ideling it is blowing blue smoke out.. Then i run down the lake for a little and starts to sputter and then turns off.. Large full smell comes from engine.. then it will start back up after letting it sit for a few mins..But i have to have the throttle wide open for it to start.. i put a it has a brand new carb.. im and fuel filter..please help i cant stand this i take people out for a good time and end up just dropping acrhor cuz it makes me so mad..

If it is running really rich at dock the excess fuel in the cylinder is washing the oil off the cylinder wall and burning it From what I understand that can cause your rings and pistons to wear out quicker. since you just put a new carb on (if i understood what you wrote correctly) you need to tune your carb asap before you do damage to your motor then see if it still is acting up and stalling.
