Default Mercruiser 3.0 I/O

I have recently purchased a 1997 Maxum 1700 with the Mercruiser 3.0 in it. We have only had it on the lake a few times but I have noticed when I slowly accelerate or attempt to run at about half throttle it sputters and cuts out. The boat seems to run good at idle and at WOT, but just does run right at mid throttle. Anyone have any ideas?

I would certainly look at a carb rebuild. I had mine rebuilt, everything tightened that had come loose and changed the prop. Now it pulls a pretty mean holeshot and runs pretty smooth. Of course it's not a 5.0 MPI, nut it gets the job done.

You might give it a tuneup including plugs and sparkplug wires. I bet it still has the original wires in it. I just replaced mine and the boat now fairly jumps onto a plane instead of plowing.

Last summer I had my carb rebuilt on my old 94 and it made a huge difference.

our 03 sea ray has that motor and it does the same thing. We changed plugs, full service and it still does it. She will take a hell of a load and still get on plane pretty easily. I have asked dealers mechs about the problem and they seem to think it is isolated. I have a guy coming over this week to go thru my outboard and I will ask him.
