Default Looking ideas...New exhaust manifold / power steering clearance issues.

I recently replaced my manifolds and risers on a 97 Mercruiser 7.4 Thunderbolt (1997 Maxum 2700scr). I have put engine back in the boat and in the process of reconnecting everything have a clearance issue with the power steering line. The pressure hose 90deg fitting is hitting the manifold. I can't tighten pump because when I adjust belt tension the fitting hits the manifold and pushes the pump forward.

Looking for ideas or knowledge of any fittings that could be used to allow additional clearance.

New manifolds are Barr. Not sure of brand removed because of no mfg markings. Roughly measure about 1/2" difference in length. Pump is v-belt driven.

Thanks,
Bryan

Bryan,

Any chance you could use a slightly shorter belt?

That would basically eliminate any adjustment. I'm not sure I could get enough tension on the shorter belt before hitting. I don't think it will work, but I will buy some shorter belts and try before changing pulleys etc.

I may be able to mill the existing slot in the mounting bracket longer. This would give me more adjustment and use a much shorter belt. It would only tilt the pump more toward the center of the engine. The pump would be at an angle rather than nearly vertical now.......would that be a problem???? May have to reduce fluid level slightly???

I can't imagine it would be a problem Bryan. The pump in my old car isn't vertical either. Long as the angle isn't extreme.
