Default Intermittent Alarm

I have a 1999 Maxum 4600 SCB with twin 6BTA 5.9M2 Cummins diesel engines. There are two alarm lights located under the ignition switches, one port and the other starboard at the helm. These alarms will go off (sometimes port, sometimes starboard) when the boat is on plane, usually running at 2700 rpm. They alarm randomly, sometimes port and sometimes starboard, but only when the rpm's get around 2700 like I said above. I have checked water temp, oil pressure when the alarms sound and all are normal. I do not want to disable these alarms for obvious reasons. Could I be looking at a short or grounding issue? What is the purpose for this alarm? I checked with the Seaboard forum and my mechanic both tell me that this appears to be an OEM issue. Do you have any suggestions?

While I’m not familiar with these engines I would locate the alarm senders and systematically disconnect one at a time to see if you can prevent the alarm from sounding. If you can isolate it to a single sender on each engine then you need to determine if it’s just a bad sender or if it is triggering for a real issue.

Since it’s intermittent, it may be a water-in-fuel alarm if your setup includes that circuit. Water in fuel sender should be located on the collection bowl if fitted to your engine.
