welcome to the zoo....at the starter ..there is a just above the connection where the batt. lead connects to the starter solenoid...there is a fusable link....first off...check the connections for corrosion...the usual culprit.......
also check the path for the hot lead that runs from the alt. to the starter..sometimes that is routed along the top of the block and can cause a short....
another culprit is that the batt. may have gone flat on you....
also check the emergency cut off sw. where your lanyard connects...
