Default High oil pressure sometimes

I have a '97 2300sc with the 350 engine. My oil pressure is typically 20-25. That said the last 2 times out when up on plane and cruising at a comfortable 3400-3600 rpm the pressure gauge moves up to 40. Any thoughts?

rip, I have a 2400SCR with a 5.7LX, at 3000 + rpm my oil pressure is 40 psi. When hot and at 1500 rpm or less I get ~20 psi.

I think what are seeing is in the normal range.

How long have you had the boat?

Things that come to mind:

1. oil pump relief valve opening prematurely or sticking.
2. sending unit
3. guage.

Best thing to do is use a mechanical pressure guage and compare.

What Mike said, Rip.

It would actually be abnormal for oil pressure to NOT increase when RPM's do increase.
