Default fuel/water seperator on mercruiser mx 6.2L mpi

Hi all,

I have a Maxum 2600SE with an inboard mercruiser mx 6.2L mpi with sea water cooling system.

my engine started to cough and shut down on me.

I'm suspecting it's something to do with the fuel/water separator. (if you have other ideas i'll be glad to hear..)

but i have a bit of trouble figuring out where in my engine the separator sits.

hope someone can guide me a bit, understanding where it is and how do I check if its clean of water.

thanks.

Start at the engine fuel supply line on the gas tank and follow it to the engine until you find the filter, it will look like a spin on oil filter. It is before the fuel pump. Should be low startboard side.

Remove it and pour the contents into a glass jar, let it settle then look for water, crud, ...

If the gas looks good have the engine scanned for fault codes.

Thanks for the fast reply mike.

Is it possible the the problem I'm describing has to do with the spark plugs?

*sadly, scanning for the fault codes cost a lot of money here...

Could be many things from plugs to a sensor. EFI engines require a scan otherwise you can start throwing money hit or miss until the problem is resolved.

With that said new plugs are never a waste.
