Fuel leaking

Hello I am new in this forum, I just bought a maxxum 2400 scr 2003 and the issue I have is the the first day I bought it I fill up the tank I took the boat for the first time and everything was fine, so now the second time I went out with the boat everything was perfect but when I was going back to the ramp before I start the English NW it was I huge amount of gas under the engine, in my way back to the ramp the engine star to give me les than 3k rpm I couldn't acelarete The second issue is that it was liking fuel but I did check the lines and was not framed or leaking from there, do you guys believe that the leaking can be from the tank??? Or probably could be from the clogged line where the tank breath??? Any body can help me with that problem, I honestly don't know where is leaking the fuel or what is the reason my tank went to empty

Welcome aboard

First and foremost do NOT operate the boat or any electrical things else an explosion may occur.

Have a mechanic pressure test the gas tank to determine if it is leaking. If the tank went from full to empty in one trip it sounds like a leak at the bottom of the tank and that's a lot of gas in the bilge.

Once the leak has been found and repaired then see if the engine is running normal.

Thank you very much for your fast response, I will bring another mechanic, because the first one I brought without making any pressure test to the tank, he just told me is the tank, before to do that huge job and spend all that money I will like to know if is any other reason why the fuel liking is, also I will Like to know how to remove the tank on my 2003 maxum 2400 scr

You can call me Mike.

Fuel can leak from the fill hose, vent hose, fuel feed to the engine, at fuel gauge sendors on top of the tank or the tank itself. Since you said the entire tank leaked out that would point to pin holes in the bottom of the tank.

Removal is not easy, typically the engine needs to come out and the bulkhead just behind the tank gets cut away as does the deck over the tank which in a 2400 SCR is the mid cabin deck under the matris.

Mike once again thank you for answering me back, well am going to try tomorrow or after tomorrow to do the tank pressure so definitely that will tell me if the tank have any hole, thank you very much for your advise Mike I ll let you know what happen after the air pressure to the tank, can you recommend me any easy way to do it my self???

The tank must be empty. Block off gas fill, vent and engine supply fittings on the tank. Use a automotive hand pump not electric but one you hand pump like a brake bleed kit with it connected to the vent fitting. Pressurize to 6 lbs and let it sit for an hour to see if it hold pressure.

Hello, I feel sorry for you! I'm in the same procedur but I'm a bit down the road whit my project. In my 2800 scr I cut the floor in the midcabin out, cut the tank in 3 pices too get it out. Then I'v made 2 new tanks in stainles steel, I cant fit one big tank in too the boat. God luck/ Daniel
