Default fresh water flush 5.7l mercruiser

Hello, Has anyone used a freshwater flush kit on an older model 5.7l Mercruiser 1997 2 bbl carb, alpha 1 gen 2 drive? not on the outdrive on the engine itself.

This can be done by installing it in the hose going from the inner transom plate to the thermostat housing but a valve between the flush adapter and transom is required so water doesn’t flow out the drive. Note you cannot run the engine this way because it will damage the impeller in the drive which needs water to keep it cool. Now if the boat is kept in the water it can be done but at the location I said to install a valve and additional vale and hose would be required to divert the water coming from the drive overboard.

Perko makes an all in one unit for this but it’s a plastic which I don’t prefer below the water line. Also it doesn’t incorporate a second valve that would allow the Alphas raw water pump to discharge overboard. However if you look up the literature for it you will see where it gets installed.
