Default fresh water cooling

what are your thoughts on fresh water cooling vs seawater cooling?
is fresh water cooling worth the $1,500 price tag?

If you’re installing a new engine and boat in salt water I recommend closed cooling. I did this in 2016 when I had to repower. I used a partial system which only cools the engine as opposed to a full system which cools the engine and exhaust manifolds.

A side benefit is winterization is easier.

What is the average life span of riser and manifolds?

Depending on the saltiness of the water life can be 5-10 years. The risers are still raw water cooled with a full system. The raw water get injected into the exhaust stream in the riser to cool the gases before going overboard.

I installed the system on my 2000 2300 SR with 200 hrs. in saltwater. Flushed the engine several times and then installed the freshwater cooling system, Updated the exhaust manifolds to dry joint, change the front engine brackets, and updated the remote filter bracket and lines. a little pricey, however, I will be able to extend the engine life ten years with proper maintenance . If you plan on keeping the boat awhile, then, It's worth every red cent.
