exhaust manifold elbows

Manifold elbow ( port side only ) has turned white , almost looks like a flakely loose substance . Someone has told me this is the salt water working its way through the metal from the inside out . Is there any truth to this ?

more like salt water got splashed and dried onto the manifold...but to be sure...you need to get a new gasket....take the elbow apart and check for any leakage...then replcae it...

Thanks ! There was a small leak where I noticed some drops of water coming from the top boot . I hope that is all it is , that elbow assembly is not cheap ! Thanks , for the tip , I learn more each day about this boat and how to fix it without getting ripped off . Great site we have here !
