Engine upgrade

Hey people, I was wondering if anyones swapped out the 260 horsepower, carbed 350 with the fuel injected 400 hp alternative ? Same block as far as I can tell and only weighs 13 lbs more. I have an alpha 3 outdrive and wonder if the 400 ponies will be ok running thru there ? Any ideas ? 40 mph sounds like my dads boat

Do you mean Bravo III? I've never heard of an alpha 3.

From what I've read, the bravo series was originally rated for 375hp, and the current ones will take 500. Depending on the age of your drive, it may not last long.



Block for block, you shouldn't have any issues with exhaust, clearance, or mounts.



Are you talking about the latest mercruiser engine packages, or just an efi replacement?



Their newer engines require different controls, and have to be installed by a licensed tech.



Since you are going from carb to efi, I imagine there is an electrical nightmare to go with it.

Are you looking at an aftermarket EFI 350 as I do not think Merc has one rate above 320 HP?
