Default engine issue

Went to the lake this weekend and motor stopped running.
2000 Maxum
2300sc cuddy
7.4 MPI 238hrs on motor
Was running fine, then a load pop and then a hissing. After that motor won't start. It turns over fine and sounds normal. No steam or smoke. No water or oil under motor.
Please any ideas would help.
thank you

First you need to determine if it’s a fuel or ignition issue. Is there spark when cranking?

Under Documents of this site you will find the Mercruiser manual for your engine. It has a troubleshooting guide.

Jari, as Mike mentions, the Mercruiser manual will help you fix your engine issue. You need to know if you are getting spark and fuel as a first step.
I have found that a tune up will often fix the problem that you describe. Another cause could be water in the fuel. One way to check for water in the fuel is to empty the fuel/water separator filter into a tall clear container. Let it sit overnight and see if there is water at the bottom of the container.

If spark and fuel are good that leaves compression and timing.
