Default engine help.

Hey everyone, i am in need of some help from some sone who has more knowledge with marine engines. i have a 2003 1900sr with a 4.3 mpi. and it has blown the head gasket and may have done more damage, i have not torn down the engine yet. in my search for parts the intake is now not available new and my search for used parts is turning up dead. There is a bunch of parts for 2008 and up out there. when they list the part numbers every thing is the same except the lower intake. WHAT is the difference??? in the picks it appears to be an electric throttle body, witch i think i can just swap my old one for. Just trying to get out of dropping money on a complete new engine. ANY advise would help.

I hope you've at least drained the oil and refilled. You don't want that water sitting there. Draining through the oil pan would be ideal, since that is where it's collecting. That is darn near impossible on a boat.

I recommend you contact Mercruiser’s service department regarding your questions.

I've talked to them twice and all they do is give me a new part number that they say is good and available but when i try to find the new number it comes up as no longer available including the dealer. And they will not come out and tell me the differences.(which i understand they don't want to tell me that i could "make it work" and end up being wrong.)

Interesting, they are usually more helpful. You may want to find a local marine engine builder who can help. I find the guys who build high performance engines more knowledgeable and helpful.
