It's back ! After filling the tank with fresh gas (had about 1/3 tank) and several uneventful trips each about 1/2 hour at cruise speed today it sputtered again. Odd thing is that it sputtered (several times) in almost the same location as the first time it did it. Had to nurse my way back at 1000-2000 rpms about 5 miles. Runs stong at low rpm's but anything above 1500 for extended time and it sputters. If I try to do 3000 rpm's it runs about 45 seconds then starts to sputter. Tank is again at about 1/2 or less as it was when this happened last. When I had more gas in tank it ran fine so I am leaning toward a fuel tank/pick up issue. Tomorrow I will pull of the fuel line to electric pump and check the in tank pick up.
Anyone had this experience or further input?

electric or mechincal fuel pump? they are so cheap i'm change it first before messing with the tank. Also, did you replace your fuel water strainer?

Sorry don't have time to read through the entire thread right now.... but have you run it with the fuel cap OFF when it does this? If this has been answered already, apologize again.

Electric fuel pump. I have try'd opening the tank cap but made no difference. Seeing as it seems to run well all the time whenever there is more than 1/2 tank of fuel I am thinking pick up tube issue like a small pinhole or crack causing it to suck air instead of fuel when running at higher speed when boat is on plane and tank is level. At low speeds the bow is usually up some causing the tank to read higher.

OK..I'm thinking ....have you replaced the antisyphon valve on the tank....buddy of mine had twins that would run for awhile but then completely die after we got it up and on plane.....

I'd replace that..it's on the fuel tank..

Went down this morning to check out fuel pick up tube and anti siphon valve. Pulled out the anti siphon valve and saw exit end of valve plugged with sediment. Removed the pick up tube and 90 degree end where the anti siphon valve screws in was almost totally plugged as well. After a good cleaning with carb cleaner and blowing out with compressed air I put it all back confident that this is what was causing the problem. Time will tell.

Glad you found it!! I was going to say most electric fuel pumps are capable of putting out 90 PSI, of course they are regulated down but if you had a hole, chances are pretty good you would know exactly where it was...

If only he would have read my post. HAHAHA just kidding glad you found it. I will check that $%#^&* valve first if I ever have fuel issues...
