Default engine corrosion

Hi, new to the forum, hoping you can help on a mystery,

I have a 1800mx 2005 3.0L merc. standard stuff since new, but shes gone back to the dealer this week with heavy salt corrosion around the starter motor, theres no visual leaks and no sign of water ingress but its managed to confuss the Merc dealer and should have been spotted under warrenty/annual service. its got to a stage of failed starter at sea and heavy rust on bare surfaces with loss of paint. Certainly isnt through abuse of lack of care. But I now feel like a husband mistreating his good lady and letting her become less than perfect

some say this is common in Mercrusiers but not that I have seen in print. any one had similar? your advise also welcome.

Thanks
BB

not usual....it sound's like you have a leak at the boot or from the riser or some place like that.....I'd definitely press the dealer to make the necessary repairs....

oh..and welcome to the zoo..
