Default Dry joint exhaust

Hi all

I was looking on a boat test site featuring the mercruiser 5.0 MPI engine and Captain Ron said something about it having a" Dry joint exhaust system" that would prevent water from getting into the engine.
Is this something new or is it the same water jacket system we have been using for years? :?

Paul

Nice.....I wonder if that can be retrofitted to older, big-block systems (e.g. '96 7.4 Litre).

Wow tglee
You sure are a wealth of knowledge. Are you a Mercury specialist?
I am new here but it does not take long to know who knows what they are talking about.
I work in the heavy truck industry and deal mostly with diesel engines but my passion is in boating and marine engines.
Has mercruiser used this new dry exhaust system on all engines since 2002 or only as a special order?
Will our new engine come standard with it?
Thanks again
Paul

All 2002 or newer V8 applications (serial #0M600000 – Above) and all 2003 or newer V6 applications (serial #0M615000 – Above) are equipped with the dry joint system.

I'm not sure if you are getting the standard 5.0 MPI Bravo III or the optional 350 MAG MPI Bravo III. But both have this feature.

I have not seen any kits for older engines.

Thanks for the compliment, but I’m not a specialist in anything. There are many others on these forums that have much more experience and knowledge of boats and boating then I do.
