Default Clicking when starting

Hi

I have a 2004 1800SR3 which refused to start today. Engine will not turn, started ok yesterday. I assume it is the starter motor. There is a clicking noise coming from a part at the top of the engine just behind the carb. Does anyone know what this part is and if it is normal. I have owend the boat for 6 months and not noticed it before.

Thanks

Paul.

As Seapuppy would have said...Welcome to the zoo PaulD. Could be a couple things here, options are: dead batteries, Starter motor, Starter Solenoid, or the slave solenoid (this located on the top of the motor next to the carb.

I would start by checking battery voltages to verify the battery is not dead. If you have 11 volts or more, move down the line to the slave solenoid.

Check out this other thread on troubleshooting. Check out this thread: http://www.maxumownersclub.com/forum...-starter-motor

If the slave is good, should move on to removing the starter and taking it to the local autozone to have the solenoid and starter checked out.

Good Luck and follow up to let us know how you made out,
-JP

Thanks for your reply. A freind tried to strip down the starter but it is complely knackered he's done a few before. Great advice, I'll obviously start with the starter and move on from there.

Paul.

I recommend that you start with the battery. It is the easiest to check and most likely source of the problem. You will need an auto parts store or battery specialty store to get a proper check because a bad battery can indicate proper voltage but not have enough amps to start.
