Default Carbed 5.0 Thunderbolt Ignition System doesn't start

2000 Maxum 2400 SCR engine doesn't want to start since about two weeks last time I run the engine, replaced cap and rotor still doesn't start. Trying to solve the problem before I trail the boat to shop which is about 20 miles. Could someone chime in and tell me what could possibly wrong that I can possibly fix myself. Thanks...

So engine cranks, correct?

Did you verify fuel is spraying in the carb when the throttle is advanced?

Did you verify spark is missing? Use a timing light or spark gap.

Check for spark at the coil. If no spark at the coil you'll need to test the ignition system per the manuals instructions to determine if it's the ignition sensor in the distributor or the ignition module.

Thanks Mike for quick response. Yes, engine cranks, I will try to do what you recommend before I take it to the shop.

While you are there, double check the spark plug wires are connected to the new cap in the right firing order and on the proper terminals.
