Default Can i use US marine controls for a Mariner motor?

I recently bought my first boat, a 1985 maxum 1700 xr, but the engine was blown, so I picked up a 75 hp 1987 mariner outboard to replace it.
My question is i really like the set up of the original controls and hate the ones that came with the mariner, is there any way to set up the new outboard to the old controls? and input would be greatly appriciated!
