Default Battery for motor

Hello,

I have Maxum 2300sc year 1995 with engine mercruiser 5.7LX/V8 thunderbolt V Ignition with two batteries.

I change my batteries and I put 2 batteries 12V 74Ah batteries.

When I researched the batteries on the internet, I saw that it is recommended for 90ah, but only one.

In short, do you think I should change my batteries to 90ah?

Thank you.

Regards,
João Afonso

Could you provide more info on your batteries and setup? Are your batteries deep cycle, starting (shallow cycle), or one of each? What is your CCA or MCA rating?
What kind of charging system are you using?
I'm sure your batteries will work fine. The more detail you provide will give more detailed responses.

Your batteries have plenty of cranking amps, and between the two of them you have 148ah. Cranking amp rating is for short term bursts for start, and ah is for long-term power draw.
I recommend you get a battery switch that allows you to select both batteries for start if necessary. Otherwise, your battery system looks good.
Others with your same boat may have additional recommendations.

Is one of your batteries a deep cycle to use as the house battery? You should not have to put the switch on BOTH (1+2) to start the engine. Leaving it in that position risk draining both batteries as well.

I only have two batteries with the specs that I said.
When I dock at marina, I connect the charger to the mains and the equipments of the boat works with the charger on.

My question is about the capacity of the batteries. If for the engine I need batteries of 90Ah.

One battery should be acting as your starting battery. The other should be acting as the 'House' battery. You should have enough Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) to start the engine easily on just your starting battery. Once you shut down the engine and don't have access to shore power (Anchoring or swing mooring) then you should switch to battery 2 to run the house systems (fridge, lights, head, pressure water pump, radio, anchor light, etc). When ready to leave, switch back to battery 2.

Minor typo Shrew.... "When ready to leave, switch back to battery 2." Should read - When ready to leave, switch back to battery 1.
