Default ATK Engine

So the time has come for me to buy the motor for the 2400SD. It was powered by a 5.0, but replacing it w a 5.7. Has anybody have recommendations motor wise. A new mercruiser drop in is out to f the question for 15K. There are so many different engine builders and shops out there. But I keep seeing the ATK VHM4 listed on a bunch of them as resellers.

So I checked out the 3 builders listed above as well as a few others, Blueprint, etc. It seems they all have questionable reviews all over the web. I know many of you have repowered your boats. Tell me, is it a crap shoot? Am I just better off buying a motor with low hours off of eBay or craigslist? I cant afford a 15K motor for this. Just don't want to make a mistake.

Jasper also seems remanufactured marine engines.

If you buying a standard HP long block I wouldn’t suspect any of the four I mentioned to be a big risk. High performance engines are another thing. If you go with a used engine be sure to hear it run and at a minimum performance a compression test and o8l analysis. Don’t fall for the line it just needs a tune up or carb work. More times than I can remember these tend to be a completely shot engine.

So decided to go w the Blueprint 355. Good reviews and a fair price. Free shipping as well.https://blueprintengines.com/product...tor-mbp3550ctc
